At 18, Jessie was working in a temple. She was scolded again and again because she could not read or write Chinese. As a child she had begged her father to stop sending her to Chinese class.
She could have walked away. Instead she taught herself, through karaoke lyrics, magazines and the traditional Chinese reference books her teacher in Hong Kong put in front of her. Any word she did not know, she asked about.
That stubborn habit became more than 20 years of practice, 8 years teaching under Dato' Joey Yap, and clients from entrepreneurs to royalty. And it is the spirit of Power Up. Every year you find what is holding you back, learn it, and come out one level higher.
